But as I explored deeper into remote coastlines and quiet backwaters, I couldn’t shake one thought:
What would I do if something went wrong—if I came face-to-face with a shark, a gator, or something worse?
Like most paddlers, I had no way to protect myself.
That’s why Hunter and I created the WHØA Paddle Spear.

Apex predators are more common than we like to admit. We wanted a way to feel safe without carrying bulky gear. We wanted safety without exposed or hard-to-reach sharp objects. No one wants to be another story on Shark Week!
The spear installs right into your paddle shaft using stainless steel and silicone parts. It’s easy to install—with zero compromise to the look, feel, or performance of your paddle. The design allows you to defend yourself from a safer distance so you can still paddle easily and stay safe.

As a firefighter, Hunter knows how important it is to be prepared. We designed this with safety in mind—for every paddler. Because no one wants to feel like a sitting duck while doing something they love.
